Dominating the skyline of Fethiye, less than 5 km from the sea sits the mountains of Mendos and Babadağ, part of Taurus mountain range which separates the Mediterranean coast from the central Anatolian Plateau.

Babadağ, known as Mount Anticragus in ancient times, has two summits which face each other, separated by a valley, which is rich in flora.

With its remarkable thermals, Babadağ is probably best known for its paragliding. It is said to be one of the best sites in Europe for paragliders to fly both solo and tandem, attracting experienced pilots from across the world. Each year in October, Oludeniz hosts the International Oludeniz Air Games, encompassing competitive events and amazing aerial displays by solo and team paragliders, base jumpers and pilots in wingsuits.

BABADAĞ

A tandem flight is a popular excursion for many holidaymakers, offering breathtaking views of the Blue Lagoon beneath. The journey up to the summit is not for the faint-hearted and takes around 50 minutes through lush mountain countryside. The flight itself takes about 45 minutes, warm currents lifting you up to soar above mountain ridges and, for those with an iron constitution, your pilot may even show off his acrobatic skills as part of the ride.

For the slightly less adventurous, there is a the Babadağ Grill and Bar at the summit for your to enjoy breakfast or an evening meal while watching the paragliders and taking in the exquisite panorama. Many local tour operators offer a “dine in the sky” trip for you to do just this.

Scheduled to open in 2021, is the Babadağ “Sky Walk”, a sky lift and cable car line that will take you from Oludeniz to the mountain’s peak, expect to operate 12 months of the year.

So, whether you want to relax or get your adrenaline pumping, a visit to Mount Babadağ is an absolute must.
